How to choose the right Decina bath

Before you settle on a style, it's worth thinking carefully about configuration, size and tap placement – decisions that affect how the bath looks, how it fits into your space and how it's installed.

Size is the most obvious factor to consider, as you need to ensure your bath will fit in your bathroom, and you will fit in it. Decina baths range from compact options around 1500mm – ideal for smaller ensuites and apartments – through to generous 1800mm models designed for larger spaces and the longer-limbed. Choose where you’ll place your bath, then carefully measure the area, factoring in any clearance you'll need around the tub.

Configuration is another key consideration. Freestanding baths make a visual statement and suit open, generous bathroom layouts. Inset or back-to-wall options work beautifully in tiled surroundings, and are easier to clean and maintain – you won’t have to reach under or behind the tub – so can be better suited to family bathrooms where practicality takes priority.

Tap placement is easy to overlook and costly to change later. The choice between wall-mounted, floor-mounted and deck-mounted tapware is one that is decided before the walls are tiled and the bath is set, because it is defined by where the water supply lines enter the bathroom. If you’re renovating your bathroom, the decision has already been made for you, though you can get a plumber to change the position of your taps if you so choose.

Key differences to consider

Once you have an understanding of your situation and sort of bath that will work, your decisions are more down to personal preference. Consider the following:

If you’re thinking about a freestanding bath you have a choice between flat base and claw foot. Flat base (or skirted) baths bring a minimalist, modern look, while a claw foot configuration screams old world luxury (though they are a little more annoying to clean under and around). Keep in mind that freestanding baths require more floor space and careful tap position planning, but the visual payoff can be more than worth the extra effort.

If you have a smaller space you’ll likely face a choice between inset and back-to-wall baths. Both are practical choices for family bathrooms and tighter layouts – inset are tiled into the space, and back-to-wall sit flush against the wall or walls before being siliconed into place. Inset baths are typically the best option when the bath will take up the entire width of your bathroom, while back-to-wall baths are better when the bath will sit against one or two walls.

Finally you’ll need to choose your preferred material. For Decina that means pressed metal vs acrylic. Acrylic is the more popular choice: lightweight, warm to the touch, excellent at retaining heat, and easy to clean. Pressed metal (steel) baths are heavier and feel more substantial, with a highly durable and scratch resistant surface, though they lose heat faster than acrylic. Acrylic suits most buyers, but pressed metal is worth considering for its more classic aesthetic and solid, weighty feel.

Our standard delivery times once your order has been despatched:

Can I collect my order?

Absolutely! Select 'pickup' during checkout. All collections are from our store in Underwood Monday to Friday 9.30am to 3.45pm.

We are unable to accommodate weekend pickups as our warehouse is closed.

What is your return policy?

We accept returns within 30 days of delivery or pickup, provided the item is unused, in its original packaging, and in saleable condition.

We are unable to accept returns for installed (or attempted install), incl modified items.

Are there any products I cannot return?

The following items are not eligible for returns:

You may cancel your order within 5 business days of order placement. However the following products can only be cancelled within 24 hours of order placement:
